Poets and Prophets: Salute To Songwriter Shane McAnally

Aug 13, 2016

August 13, 2016
Shane McAnally has written chart-topping songs for Kenny Chesney (“Somewhere with You,” “Come Over”), Jake Owen (“Alone with You”), the Band Perry (“Better Dig Two”), and Sam Hunt (“Leave the Night On,” “Take Your Time”). Texas native McAnally moved to Nashville at age nineteen to pursue a career as a recording artist, but the singer became discouraged when his 2000 debut album sold poorly. After a stint in Hollywood, McAnally returned to Nashville in 2007, this time establishing himself as a songwriter and producer. He wrote Lee Ann Womack’s “Last Call,” Luke Bryan’s “Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye,” Miranda Lambert’s “Mama’s Broken Heart,” Lady Antebellum’s “Downtown,” Keith Urban’s “John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16,” and many other hits. McAnally won the 2013 Grammy for Best Country Song for Kacey Musgraves’s “Merry Go ’Round” and earned the 2014 CMA Song of the Year for Musgraves’s “Follow Your Arrow.” The interview was illustrated with vintage photos, film footage, and recordings, and McAnally performed briefly.
